What we've taken over

One house, all of it ours

A chef's kitchen, a bar with its own mixologist, and a custom dining table that seats twenty-four. Every meal is at one table together instead of scattered across restaurants.

Nine bedrooms across three levels. Some have private en-suites, two share a bathroom, one is interior with bunks. They are not equal, which is why we're drawing them out of a hat.

Why we need you

Three things only you can answer

Your flight times, so a car is waiting when you land. Your allergies and anything you won't eat, so the chef knows before he shops. And what you drink, so the fridge is right when we walk in.

After that it's just votes on the first day's menus, what you're comfortable spending on a night out, and whether you're in for the spa, the tequila or the boat. Bedrooms are drawn at random, so there's nothing to negotiate.

Start filling it in

01 · The board

This fills itself in as people submit. Come back to see where the votes landed and who's on your flight.

02 · Your details

The bit only you can answer

Four minutes, and it saves as you type. You can come back and change anything right up to the deadline.
Are you coming as a pair?

Most people are coming as couples, so one of you can fill it in for both of you. Tick the second option and everything that needs both names will appear.

Names

And your other half

WhatsApp is how the concierge reaches the group in Mexico. One number per couple is plenty.

Flights

Airport transfers are arranged per arrival, so we need your times and flight numbers. The airport is PVR. Check-in is 3:00 PM, check-out 11:00 AM. If you're travelling together, one set of flights covers you both.

Where you're sleeping

There's nothing to choose here, and that's on purpose. The nine rooms are not equal. Some have private en-suites, two share a bathroom, one is interior with bunks. Rather than have anyone lobbying for the good ones, we're drawing them at random once everyone has replied. No requests and no swaps. One room per couple. Have a look at all nine in Before You Go, then forget about it.

Allergies & diet

The most important box on this page. Everyone eats the same menu, and the kitchen only makes exceptions for allergies and dietary needs. If it isn't written here, it won't be accommodated.

Theirs, and please don't skip it

Anything else we should know?

The catch-all. Arriving a day early, leaving on a dawn flight, not drinking, bringing someone we haven't accounted for, anything at all that changes the plan.

04 · Dinner out

One night, off the property

Irina and Sepi fancy one night out somewhere decent.

One night we'll book a restaurant

Somewhere near the villa. From what we've looked at so far, expect around $50 to $85 each.

We'll pay for what we each order rather than splitting the bill evenly.

Let us know if you're in or out so we can book the table.

In or out?

05 · Spa day and a boat

The girls' spa day

Irina and Sepi want a spa day, so that's happening on one day of the trip and it's for the girls. The boys will have to figure out something else. A tequila tasting is one idea, and one of the operators brings it to the villa, so at least there's a starting point.

There's a party boat as well, and that one's for everyone. None of it is booked. These are examples of what we could do, with rough prices attached, so you know what you're saying yes to.

Who's in for the spa?

A morning or afternoon at a day spa in town. Tell us how many from your party are in, so we know what to book.

Roughly what it costs
  • 60-minute massage$900 MXN · approx US$52
  • 90-minute massage$1,350 MXN · approx US$78
  • 90-minute massage + facial$1,650 MXN · approx US$96
  • Manicure & pedicure, from$400 MXN · approx US$23
An idea for the boys: tequila tasting

Nothing decided here. This is one suggestion for the same day, while the spa is on. Two options: one comes to the villa, the other is out in town and cheaper. If you've got a better idea, put it in the last box of this section.

Roughly what it costs
  • At the villa · 1.5–2 hrs, four 100% agave tequilas$75 · per person
  • Out in town · 2 hrs, five tequilas + welcome cocktail$54 · per person

If you'd rather do this one than the spa, put yourself down for it regardless.

The party boat

A private charter on Banderas Bay for about four hours, with a water slide, snorkel gear, paddleboards, food and a premium open bar. It only goes ahead if enough of us are in, and the more people who come the cheaper it gets per head.

Roughly what it costs
  • 4 hours, all-inclusive · 16 peopleapprox US$167 each
  • 4 hours, we bring the food and drinkapprox US$105 each

Anything else you'd like priced up?

Citlalli can quote almost anything before anyone commits: a chef's tasting night, fishing, a private beach club, transport. Costs nothing to ask.

06 · Provisions

What's in the fridge when we arrive

You don't need to do a grocery shop

The villa's team buys everything before we land. The boring half is handled centrally: coffee, milk, bread, butter, eggs, fruit, water, tortillas, snacks, the lot. Nobody needs to request bananas.

What we can't guess is what you drink and anything you specifically need. That's all this section is. Tick a few boxes, add anything unusual, and you're done in a minute.

What do you drink?
A margarita with a salted rim A michelada being poured, with limes and chillies Two margarita coupes with lime

Tick anything you'd actually reach for. Quantities are my problem, not yours. Ticking a lot is fine, and ticking nothing is also fine.

Roughly how much, on a normal day there?

Nobody's counting and nobody sees your answer next to your name. It's so the order comes out the right size. We multiply it across four days to work out how many bottles to buy, and the alternative is guessing.

And them?

Anything you specifically need?

This is the box that matters. Things we'd never think to buy and you'd miss: a particular brand, oat milk, protein powder, baby formula, nappies, gluten-free bread, a specific tequila, your electrolyte sachets, decaf. Also the place to name anything from the villa's full list below.

The villa's full stocking listreference only, nothing to fill in

How it's paid: food and drink is at our cost, not the villa's, plus a shopping fee of 10% settling in cash or 15% by credit card. The villa manager provides an itemised receipt in pesos. Full detail in Before You Go.

Money, and please read this bit

$30

Gratuity

Per guest, per night, USD. Customary for the villa staff, paid at the end. Over four nights that's $120 each.

$50

Cash per day

Minimum recommended per person, per day. Groceries, gratuities, taxis and plenty of good local places are cash-only.

10%

Shopping fee

On grocery receipts settling in cash. It's 15% on a credit card, and the difference isn't small.

What that means for you

Set the slider to how many people you're paying for. Food and drink is extra and split by the group. This is just the cash you should physically bring.

US dollars are taken almost everywhere in Puerto Vallarta, though the rate varies by till. Where cards work it's usually Visa and Mastercard only. ATMs are easy to find, but watch the withdrawal caps and fees. Grocery money settled at the house is converted at the official Banco de México rate for that day, which keeps it honest for everyone.

How the days run

The staff

Chef, sous chef, waiter, mixologist and housekeeping, on site 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily. Your villa manager is bilingual and meets us at the door.

Meals

Breakfast 8:00–10:00 AM, dinner 6:00–8:00 PM, plus a light lunch. One shared menu, with exceptions only for allergies and dietary needs.

Arriving

Check-in 3:00 PM, check-out 11:00 AM. Early check-in and late check-out can sometimes be arranged, so ask rather than assume. Guacamole, salsa, chips and a welcome drink are waiting.

Not included

Food, drink, shopping fees and staff gratuities are all on us rather than in the rental. Budget for them properly and there are no surprises.

The nine bedrooms

As numbered on the villa's own assignment form. Who gets which one is drawn at random once everyone has replied. A straight draw, so nobody has to lobby for the good ones.

A look at the rooms

From the villa's listing photos. The listing captions its bedrooms differently from the assignment form, so treat these as a look at the house rather than who gets what.

Please don't leave this to the last minute. We're asking for everything by Tuesday 15 September, because it all has to be collated and sent on to the villa. Their own cutoff is 8 October, and after that the fridge is a lottery and the airport cars are a guess.
